Distributed fault pinpointing system for overhead lines

IN-500J Distributed Fault Accurate Location System for Power Lines

Distributed fault pinpointing system for overhead lines

System Introduction

Distributed fault location system for overhead lines consists of distributed fault location terminal, main station system and mobile handheld terminal (optional). Distributed fault location terminals are installed on transmission line conductors or towers, with one set installed every 5~30km or more, detecting traveling wave signals on the conductors in real time and sending them to the main station system through GPRS. The main station system includes application server and its peripherals, data server, data network communication equipment, and human-machine interaction equipment (optional).

System Composition and Arrangement

  • Overhead signal detection terminals: Deployed on three-phase (A-phase, B-phase, C-phase) of overhead lines. It is the key equipment used to collect the electrical signals of the line, and provides data support for fault localization through real-time monitoring of the current, voltage and other signals on the line.
  • Line DistributionThe three lines, phase A, phase B and phase C, are arranged in parallel, with overhead signal detection terminals installed on each line. The distance between neighboring detection terminals must meet the requirement of more than or equal to 5 kilometers, and the arrangement can ensure the comprehensive monitoring of long distance overhead lines.

How the system works and what it does

When a fault occurs on an overhead line, the fault point will produce special electrical signal changes, which will propagate along the line in the form of traveling waves and so on. The overhead-type signal detection terminals installed on each phase of the line will capture these signals, and by analyzing and calculating the signal time, characteristics, etc., collected by multiple detection terminals, the location of the fault point on the line can be accurately determined. The system helps operation and maintenance personnel to quickly find the fault location, improve fault handling efficiency, reduce power outage time, and safeguard the reliable power supply of overhead lines.
